New to Waxing? Here’s What to Know.
Everyone starts somewhere — and we’re here to make it a smooth experience, inside and out.
• Yes, it might sting — but only briefly.
Most people say waxing feels like a quick snap, followed by a warm tingle. The first time is usually the most intense, but it gets easier as hair grows back finer over time.
• Take a deep breath.
Nervous system regulation matters. Slow, steady breathing can actually reduce discomfort. If you’re feeling anxious, let me know — I’ll guide you through it gently.
• Don’t shave before your appointment.
Shaving disrupts the hair growth cycle. For best results, let the hair grow to about a grain of rice in length (~2–3 weeks of growth).
• Exfoliate lightly 1–2 days before.
This helps loosen dead skin and lifts trapped hairs, allowing for a cleaner wax.
• Skip caffeine and alcohol beforehand.
Both can make your skin more sensitive. Instead, hydrate and eat a light snack before your appointment.
• Redness or small bumps? Totally normal.
These usually fade within 24–48 hours. A calming serum or aloe-based gel can help.
• Let’s talk about comfort.
This is a judgment-free space. Your body is normal, your hair is normal, and your experience matters. If you have questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to speak up.
Pre & Post Care Guide
Before Your Wax
To get the best results and protect your skin:
• Let it grow – Hair should be at least ¼ inch long (about a grain of rice). This usually means waiting 2–3 weeks between waxes or shaving.
• Clean but product-free – Gently cleanse the area before your appointment, but avoid applying oils, lotions, deodorant, or makeup to the area being waxed.
• Avoid heat + exfoliation – Refrain from tanning, intense workouts, hot baths, saunas, or exfoliating 24 hours before your wax.
• Plan around your cycle – Skin may feel more sensitive the few days before or during your period.
• Breathe + relax – If you’re nervous, that’s totally normal. You’re in good hands — we’ll move mindfully and make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.
After Your Wax
Your skin will be fresh, exfoliated, and more vulnerable — so treat it gently:
• No heat or friction for 24 hours – Skip hot baths, steam rooms, tanning, intense workouts, or tight clothing.
• Hands off – Avoid touching freshly waxed skin to prevent bacteria from causing breakouts or irritation.
• Skip actives + exfoliants – No retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, scrubs, or peels for at least 48 hours post-wax.
• Soothe + hydrate – Apply a calming serum or aloe-based gel to ease any redness and keep skin moisturized.
• Exfoliate regularly after 2–3 days – Gently exfoliating 2–3x a week can help prevent ingrown hairs.
• Stay consistent – Waxing every 4–6 weeks can lead to finer, slower regrowth over time.
